!ATTENTION!
Reading at your own risk. This was the most legendary trip we have ever
done !
We stayed in Scotland from the 24.10-28.10.2016. Our exchange families live in Glasgow.
Monday: For the flight to Glasgow we had to take three different planes. The first flight was from Nuremberg airport at 09.00 am to Berlin, from Berlin to Dusseldorf and then finally for 2 hours to Glasgow ( how unnecessary).
As we arrived in Glasgow, our exchange partners were waiting for us. After a warm welcome we were taken to their school by taxi. We totally forgot that they drive on the left lane, so we had to get used to it. The school´s name is Shawlands Academy . The school is divided into two parts. One of them is like our InGym and the other one is for Scottish pupils. The building was very big. We visited two school- lessons (German & English). Ms Rooney, their German teacher, took part in the exchange. In class they are allowed to use their mobiles! After school we all went home to our exchange families. The families were very kind and hospitable. At the evening the German and the Scottish pupils went to the Queen´s Park. Queen's Park is a park situated on the south side of the city of Glasgow. The park is very big, and the football team Queen's Park F.C. is named after it.
Tuesday: By Metro we went to the capital city, Edinburgh. First we had a walk around Edinburgh but in the direction of the castle. Edinburgh Castle is located on Castle Rock. Edinburgh Castle is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland. More than one million people visit the castle each year.
Then we went to the National Museum of Scotland and had great fun experimenting, watching and walking around in this lovely building.
Moreover we visited Mary Kings Close which is an old Edinburgh close located under buildings in the Old Town area of Edinburgh, Scotland. People lived there with no daylight!
After this trip we went home and in the evening we went to Queen´s Park again.
Wednesday: In the morning we went straight to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the biggest Museum and art Gallery of Scotland. It was somehow interesting and big.
There was even a greeting for us at the George Square by the borough mayor Bailie Dochterty. We were offered a typical Scottish teatime. When it finished some of us went shopping in town. The city centre offers some of the best shopping experiences outside of London.
But the highlight of the day was definitely the Ceilidh in the evening. That is a traditional Scottish event where you´re dancing Scotthish country dances. Our Scottish friends invited a lot of pupils to the Ceilidh who didn’t take part in the exchange. And that’s how we got to know even the other pupils at school. We learnt a few dances and really had a lot of fun. On the whole it has been a wonderful evening !
Thursday: Only us, the German pupils, had a trip to Balloch. Balloch is an enchanting village on the south-west coast of Loch Lomond. We visited the most beautiful lake in Scotland called Loch Lomond by boat. The lake contains many islands and is now a part of the Trossachs National Park.
After that we met with our exchange partners. We went (again) on a BIIIG shopping tour. But because it was the last day, our partners decided to have a little party with us ( without teachers, hehe). They bought so many pizzas for us and we really have to admit, that the pizzas there are way better than here, although we thought pizza hut is everywhere the same. But believe us : it isn’t. That night so many things happened over there; we sang loudly and with so much passion, and had a lot of fun!
Friday:  Actually it was unspecial, but sad. We said goodbye to our exchange partners. We really miss them. But how could we have known that the worst part was still to come? The flight until Dusseldorf was okay. But then everything suddenly changed ! Our flight to Nuremberg had been cancelled. So there we were: tired, bored, and hungry ( we are pubescent teenagers, ok?). We had to wait 6 hours for our next flight. That means, that we would have had to stay a night at the airport. So when we almost gave our hope up, there was a chink of light. We were given coupons with the value of 10 Euro. Of course we went straight to Mc Donalds. And there was even an earlier flight. Thank God!
We were sitting on the plane, ready to start, when all of the sudden an announcement was made. They said, the plane couldn’t start because of some technical defect. Thank God they they noticed before the plane had taken off. So we had to wait again… While we were waiting we saw the Youtuber Mirella (@mirellativegal). Of course some of us took pictures with her, so the time passed by quickly.
All in all it was an amazing experience. Some of us had their first flight, all of us love Glasgow now, we have seen many things and have made a lot of memories we will never forget.

Shakespeare? Zumindest Zitate wie „Sein oder Nichtsein“ kennt und verwendet jeder.

Was aber hat Shakespeare mit Science Fiction Filmen zu tun?

Dies zeigte Dr. Simone Broders (Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) an ausgewählten Materialien von Star Trek und Star Wars anschaulich und eindrücklich. In zweimaliger Lesung mit Erläuterungen konnten alle Schüler der Oberstufe Englisch (Q11/Q12) am 17.12.2015 mit verfolgen, welche Arten von Verknüpfungen existieren.

Zusätzlich erlebten die Gymnasiasten noch vor Ende ihrer Schulzeit, was wissenschaftliches Arbeiten bedeutet: Nach sauberem und genauen Recherchieren und der Ausarbeitung der inhaltlichen Ergebnisse, bei der es auf den exakten Wortlaut ankommt, muss für die Präsentationsweise mit den entsprechenden Medien erneut Energie verwendet werden, damit alles qualitativ hochwertig dargeboten werden kann.

Im Falle von Frau Dr. Broders war dies ein inhaltlich dichter und von ihr selbst exzellent recherchierter Vortrag mit abwechslungsreicher Prezi-Präsentation, in der neben Zitaten auch passende Filmsequenzen dargeboten wurden.

Anschließend lud sie zu Fragen zum Vortrag und zum Anglistikstudium ein.

Besonders hervorzuheben ist die außergewöhnliche Bereitschaft, kurz vor Weihnachten nicht nur völlig kostenfrei anzureisen und den Vortrag zweimal gratis zu halten, damit die Schüler des Gymnasiums in den Genuss von Bildung auf hohem Niveau erhalten konnten. Zusätzlich reiste sie für alle Eventualitäten gerüstet mit mehreren Computern und menschlicher zusätzlicher Unterstützung (Bild) für etwaige technische Probleme an, damit die Schüler und Lehrer des Martin-Behaim-Gymnasiums die Sicherheit hatten, Frau Dr. Broders wesentlichen Beitrag zur Shakespeare-Forschung zu goutieren. Sie ist mit uns in Bereiche vorgedrungen, „wo noch kein Mensch zuvor gewesen ist“ (Star Trek).

Wir danken Frau Dr. Broders sehr herzlich für ihren bereichernden Vortrag an unserer Schule.

Englischsprachige Filme im Original begeisterten auch 2014 die Behaimer, für die eine eigene Vorstellung reserviert wurde. Eine 10. Klasse und zwei Kurse der Q11 sahen den bewegenden Film Fruitvale Station, der von einer wahren Begebenheit erzählt.
